Date of Passing: Aug 24, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS (RACHMAEL LAZAR) OSTROV Louis Ostrov died peacefully on August 24, 2006 with his loving family around him. Born in Winnipeg on December 25, 1914, he was the eldest of three children. He was predeceased by his sister Reva and is survived by his younger brother Jack Ostrov. He married Cassie (nee Tregebov) and they had a loving relationship for 61 years. Cassie died in 2005. While Lou delighted in raising three girls, Lois, Susan and Shelley, he welcomed and loved his sons-in-law, Fred Shane, David Sandell and Ernie Morris, as the sons he had always wanted. He had a very close relationship with his grandchildren, Kim, Merrill, Myles, Zoe, Avery and Whitney and he was thrilled with his great grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathon and Rosemary. He believed his family was his true legacy. Lou was a very special person. He was kind, modest and generous. He made everyone he met feel appreciated. He was accepting of people's natures and was never judgmental. Driving his car was a passion in his life. Even at age 91 he bought a new car which he drove several times a day to have coffee at his favourite haunt, the Thunderbird with his brother Murph (Jack) and friends. Many times Lou and Cassie drove across Canada and the United States. He also enjoyed photography and giving slide shows for the family. With the help of his daughter Shelley and Nelson Wolfe he transformed a room in the basement into a magical model train world. Lou's gentle kind manner, twinkling eyes, sharp wit and intelligence will always be remembered and rejoiced. When you think of Lou, you feel love and compassion and you know that this is the essence of a life well lived. Lou requested that there be no funeral service and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favourite charity.
