BILL HARRIS On Tuesday, August 22, 2006, Bill passed away peacefully at the Gimli Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother Ethel, father George and brother Jack. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Leo and her daughter Nicki (Claude). He is also survived by Edith; his children, Bryan (Eva), Grant (Mary), Wendy (Lance) and Debbie (George); his nine grandchildren, Maureen, Grayson, Quinton, Kristjan, Eton, Laine, Courtney, Bailey and Hilary; his six great-grandchildren, Leeanne, Matthew, Alexi, Zachari, Tree and Ocean. He is also survived by his sister Lois. Bill was born in Winnipeg on January 1, 1921 and lived a full and exciting life. He was a successful businessman and contractor, building a company Harris Construction, later Pile Foundations Ltd. into an operation that spanned from Ontario to British Columbia. He built both the Midtown Bridge and the Disraeli Freeway. He was a member of the Shrine and involved himself in many charitable and civic ventures. Bill was an avid sportsman, active in hunting, fishing, curling, boxing, tennis and golf. He was also an accomplished dancer and singer. But he really loved the water. He was a fabulous diver and swimmer and a keen boater. He was the proud owner of the Wendebee, the Lord Selkirk and the well-named Billy the Kidd. He was a longtime member and past commodore of the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Tuesday, September 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club, 90 Kenabeek St., West St. Paul.
