VICTOR BARDAL 1912 2006 Victor Bardal passed away quietly September 5, 2006 after a short, courageous fight with cancer. He was 94. Victor was born in Winnipeg in 1912, one of 12 children of Icelandic parents. He was predeceased by his brothers, Art, Sig, Baldur, Kari, Jon and Hally; and by sisters, Ruth, Rae and Cecily. He is survived by brother Fred and sister Grace. Victor was predeceased by his first wife Christine, and his second wife Peggy. He will be greatly missed by daughters, Thora (Mike) and Elizabeth (Richard); son Sandy (Mary Anne); his much adored grandsons, Eric and Trevor; and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and their families. Victor saw service in the Navy as a medic in Newfoundland in the Second World War. Upon returning from the service he and his brother Fred moved to Vancouver where they started a printing business. Ever the entrepreneur, Victor went on to establish a wholesale and retail business in Ladies' fashions. Victor's life was one of humanity and kindness. For many years he was very active in Kiwanis and he was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for his frequent donations of blood. He loved art and was an accomplished painter, and later in life discovered soapstone carving. Flowers were a passion especially his roses and his home was filled with the melodies of opera and the classics. He delighted in people family, friends and chance encounters. His sincere interest was infectious; a waitress, a clerk, an airline seat mate all became his immediate friends. Victor took great pride in his Icelandic heritage. He learned the language, studied the sagas and at the age of 91 visited Iceland for the first time with a group of ten family members the highlight of which was a visit to his mother's and father's family homes. Victor's life was a full and rich one. He took little, and gave much. We will miss his vitality, love and kindness. He was a Viking to the end. A celebration of Victor's life will be held on September 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver (604) 980-3451. At Victor's request no ties! The family would like to thank the staff of 4 East and the Palliative Care Unit at Lions Gate Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. www.lghfoundation.com or Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, 231 East 15th Street, North Vancouver, BC V7L 2L7.
