Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(IVY) EVELYN WEST PHILLIPS (MILTON) (nee MCBURNEY) Born October 25, 1909 in Belfast, Ireland, Ivy went to meet her God and reunite with past family on September 6, 2006. Predeceased by her parents, WM. J. and Margaret McBurney; sister Madge Deering; brother Bill McBurney; first husband George Milton; second husband Ed Phillips; and nephew Larry Deering. Ivy is survived by brother Ernie McBurney (Francis) North Carolina; two nieces, Peggy Plouffe and Wendy Montizambert; four nephews, Ted Deering, Terry McBurney, Blair McBurney and Ward McBurney; and many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Ed's son Douglas (Margo); and their two daughters, Lauren and Jaclyn. Ivy was well known in Winnipeg's music world. She sang in Church Choirs (St. Mathews, St. Peters and St. Lukes) from the age of 15. She belonged to the Metropolitan Light Opera Co., played Queen Elizabeth in Merry England at the Playhouse Theatre in 1947, sang contralto in The Messiah with the combined choirs of St. Mathews, All Saints and Holy Trinity. Ivy sang in almost every church in Winnipeg at weddings and funerals and performed many duets with George at different functions. Her world was her church and her music and after George's death in 1980 she had no heart for singing, so retired. Ivy's working years were in the cash office at Eatons mail order from 1928 to 1953. After her marriage to George in 1953, she worked only part time for awhile. When George became ill, they sold their house and moved to an apartment where she continued to live after his death in 1980 and until her marriage to Ed in October 1982. Ivy then joined the congregation of St. Barnabas and made many new friends. After Ed's death, Ivy took up residence at the Waverley and enjoyed several years, moving to the Rosewood for a short time. She spent the last year and a half at Vista Park Lodge. The family would like to thank all concerned at Vista Park, especially nurses Shelby and Karen and the recreation staff for the loving care she received. Funeral service will be held at St. Johns Cathedral (Anglican), 135 Anderson Ave on Tuesday, September 12, at 1:30 p.m with Very Rev. Dean Osborne and Rev. Bob English officiating. Interment to follow. Pallbearers are Glen Deering, Terry McBurney, Colin Garrioch, Dan Plouffe, Stacy Plouffe and Courtney Plouffe. For anyone wishing to do so, in lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Cathedral would be appreciated.
