CATHERINE (KAY) PETERSON After a long, eventful life Catherine (Kay) Peterson passed away at 99 on Friday, September 8, 2006 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Left to mourn are her 3 daughters Iris Wedge, Evelyn (Harvey) Buchanan, and Joan (Lloyd) Lillebo and 10 grandchildren (Les, Darlene and Terry Wedge, Linda Scott, Larry, Dale, Gordon and Murray Slagerman and Wayne and Rick Lillebo and families). Sister-in-law Pearl and numerous nieces and nephews will also mourn Auntie Kay. The last of her generation, she was predeceased by her parents, William and Isabella Maskell, husband Sten, infant son Edwin, siblings (Lil, Isobel, Muriel, May, Bill, Irene), 2 sons-in-law, Harry Slagerman and Les Wedge and great-granddaughter Melanie. Catherine was born June 27, 1907 in Winnipeg and spent her early years in Grosse Isle. She married Sten Peterson in 1927 and they made their home in Gordon and later Winnipeg. She was a housewife, mother, and partner in Peterson Construction - keeping the books and camp cook. After she was widowed, she had numerous jobs including working with Indian Affairs at the residential schools in Portage and Birtle. Upon retirement, Catherine moved into the Eastern Star Chalet were she lived for 27 years. After an accident in June, 1999 she then moved to Calvary Place where she resided until her passing. A memorial service celebrating Kay's life will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Kay's memory to the Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin Street, Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6 or a charity of your choice.
