DAVID RONALD EDWARD (TED) WARD Suddenly, after a full and active life, our beloved Ted passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2006, at the Health Sciences Centre. Ted is survived by his wife Donna, and their four children, Greg (Rhonda) of Winnipeg, Dean (Margaret) of Stonewall, Tim (Laura) of Stonewall and Kim Hughes (Scott) of Balmoral; and his grandchildren, Brenda (J.P.), Jonathan, Andrew (Kasha) and Jeffery (Kim) Ward, Brittany, Tyler, Hailey and Ryan Hughes, Brett, William and James. Also left to mourn his passing are his sister Helen (Tom) Croy of Stonewall, brother Bill Ward of Rosser, sister-in-law Helen Mollard of Victoria, BC and brother-in-law Gord (Alvina) Appleyard of Stonewall. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Karoline, his sister Elsie in 1942, brother John in 1951, sister Peggy in 1970, brothers-in-law Tom Sheldon in 1968, Les Barr in 1992, Ivan Mollard in 2005, sisters-in-law Bette Ward in 2004, Willa Barr in 2003 and Ellen Appleyard in 1994, and granddaughter Chantelle Rikheim in 2005. Ted was born on June 24, 1932, on the home farm, where he lived his entire life. He was the youngest of six children born to James and Karoline Ward. In 1954, he married Donna Appleyard and together they raised three sons and one daughter. In his younger years, Ted was very active in community organizations. As a boy, he belonged to the Junior Seed Growers Club (now 4H), and Stonewall Tractor Club. He joined the board of the Rockwood Agriculture Society in 1955 and was a board member for over 25 years, during which time he held the office of vice-president, president, and past president. He was awarded life membership. He was a member of the Stonewall Farm Business Group in the early 60s. In 1969, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Interlake School Division and held that position until 1984. During that time, he was elected as the member of the Board of Directors of the Manitoba School Trustees Association for the Interlake region and later as a Director-at-Large of that organization. During his membership on that board, he was appointed by the Minister of Education to serve on the Advisory Board to the Minister of Education. He was a member of Stonewall Lodge #49 I.O.O.F. and held the office of Recording Secretary, Vice-Grand, Noble-Grand and Past-Grand in that organization and was awarded life-membership in 2000. He was vice-chairman of the Stonewall Centennial Committee in 1977 and 1978. He was on the Vestry of the Church of the Ascension for a number of years. Ted was a charter member of the Stonewall Credit Union (now South Interlake Credit Union) and held various offices in that organization. Ted dairy farmed all his life until 1980 when they sold the cattle and then grain-farmed for a few years more, retiring from farming in 1984. In 1984 he got a job as a security officer at Grace Hospital and was there until 1987 when he was hired as manager of Quarry-View Esso in Stonewall, and worked there until he retired completely in 1997. Ted enjoyed travelling and fishing. He and Donna spent some time in Hawaii on four separate occasions. They enjoyed holidays in Quebec City, San Francisco, and Victoria, BC. Their favourite fishing spot was Wekusko Falls in Northern Manitoba. Prayers will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. In accordance with Ted's wishes cremation and a private funeral service are being held. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made in Ted's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Church of the Ascension, Stonewall.
