Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDIRK WILLEM VAN ES May 22, 1925 - September 9, 2006 On Sunday, September 9, 2006, just 11 days after the passing of his wife, Josephina, Dirk was called to be with his love. The two were united as one; the love they shared for more than 53 years couldn't be kept apart. Dirk was born on May 22, 1925 in Maastricht, The Netherlands. He met Josephina while dancing and so began their life as one. After they were married in 1953, Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada to begin their life together in Moose Jaw, SK. Dad began his career as a professional engineer in Regina as Manager of the new water treatment plant and then with the City of Winnipeg overseeing the construction of the North End wastewater treatment plant. He retired from the City of Winnipeg in May 1987. Although work was an integral part of his life, family was always most important. Mom and Dad raised four children and they loved to travel. Dad gave us many gifts that we will keep close to our hearts. He taught us to be strong and independent, and to know that we could achieve whatever we set out to do with our lives. We were blessed to have had such a strong example of love and faith from which to learn. Dirk will be missed by his children and grandchildren: daughter Joan La Rue-van Es, husband Dave La Rue and grandchildren Nicole, Peter and Joelle (Jeremy Epp); daughter Jean Dowling, husband Graeme and grandchildren Michael (Lindsay D'Agostini), Matthew, Christopher (Maggie Kwan) and Cara; son Frank van Es, wife Christine and grandchildren Kyle and Riley; daughter Carol-Ann Swayzie, husband Greg and grandchildren Jenna and Ryan. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Military Chapel, 2235 Silver Ave. (at Whytewold Road), Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who supported Dad over the years. He was somewhat of a medical miracle. In particular, we note the staff of The Victoria General Hospital, The Grace Hospital and most recently The Deer Lodge Chronic Care Centre Lodge, 6 East. Their depth of caring and compassion made a wonderful difference in Dad's life. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Dirk's memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Dirk's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
