OLIVE MAY TAYLOR Mom died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 after 87 energetic years of loving service to her family and community. She was completely independent and fully involved in her usual volunteer activities until just days before her death. Olive May Dinsdale was born and raised in Brandon, MB. Her nickname was Dinny and many of her lifelong friends knew her only by that name. She trained as a registered nurse at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, graduating with the gold medal, and served as an army nurse during the Second World War. In 1943 Dinny met and married surgeon Reid Taylor, who was also a member of the wartime Army Medical Corps. They lived briefly in Regina before settling in Winnipeg to raise their four children. Reid passed away in 1982. She remarried but was predeceased by second husband Albert Rusty Johnston in 1993. Mom was very active in the Salvation Army throughout her life, both as a member of the congregation and willing volunteer. She had a sincere and sustaining faith as a Salvationist. Volunteerism was always a prominent part of her life. The Health Sciences Centre White Cross Guild, Council of Women of Winnipeg, and Manitoba Craft Guild were just a few of the many organizations to benefit from her decades of time and effort. Mom was talented at many handicrafts, especially knitting, and her output was amazing. Every single one of us has many beautiful pieces to treasure. Along with grandchildren came another nickname. The oldest grandson inarticulated grandma as bagga and the name stuck. Bagga loved Lake Winnipeg and spent most of the past 50 or so summers at the family cottage in Loni Beach. The past summer was very special: her four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all happened to visit the cottage at the same time in July. The little cabin was crowded but the timing could not have been better. Mom was a sharp bridge player and for over fifty years enjoyed biweekly games with her beloved Bridge Club. We all feel a sense of sadness and loss when such a vibrant person leaves suddenly and the loss really is ours, not hers. Mom loved and helped many during her life and now that she finally has time to reflect, she will surely realize the number of lives she has touched. Olive was predeceased by her three older brothers Harold, Walt, and Bill. She is survived by four children: Judy of Fernie, BC, Peter of Edina, MN and Mary and Martha, both of Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 401 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB R2K 2H4 or to the charity of your choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK Funeral Home Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd. 925-1120
