ELZA MYERS Elza Myers (nee Janssens) passed away peacefully on September 13, 2006. She was born in St. Boniface, MB on August 16, 1913 and was the daughter of August F. and Flora (Goovaerts) Janssens, who immigrated to St. Boniface from Belgium in the early years of the 20th century. Elza is survived by two step-children, Virgina Bates and Kenney Parks; sister Marie Jo Martin; numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Australia and elsewhere. She was predeceased by her husband J. Douglas; sisters, Alice Uskali, Louise Bollen, Irene Turenne; brothers, Andre, Albert and George (Danny); and five infant siblings. Elza retired in 1974 after a long career in public service with both the United Kingdom and Canadian governments, mainly in the field of public/consumer relations, in Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary. After retiring, she and Doug moved to Florida, summering in Buffalo, NY until 1978 when they took up permanent residence in Palm Bay, on Florida's Space Coast, where they could watch the shuttle launches, including the disastrous failure of the Shuttle Columbia. Elza returned to Canada in the year 2000, living in Kelowna until August 2001, when she purchased a condo in Ingram Place, Westbank, BC. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Prayers will be recited on Monday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2547 Hebert Road, Westbank, BC with interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A gift in living memory of Elza will be made to Holding Hands for Hospice by Springfield Funeral Home.
