CLAYTON WILLIAM THOMSON Sadly, the family of Clayton Thomson announces his leaving of this world after a brief battle with cancer on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Clayton was born in Tupper to George and Katie Thomson on April 12, 1926. The family briefly moved to Pense, Saskatchewan before settling in the town of Plumas. He proudly served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He married Helen Hanke in 1949 and they had 3 children: Brian, Dennis and Brenda. He was a farmer all his life. He loved the farm and would drive out to check on the progress every day he possibly could. Just recently, he enjoyed a ride on the combine with Brian. His greatest joy was to know that the farm will continue for generations to come in the family. He was a life member of the Plumas Legion Branch # 189 and held various offices over the years. He was also a member of the Plumas Curling Club. He coached all three kids in baseball and the boys in hockey, and refereed many games. He enjoyed watching Brian in local curling bonspiels and watching Dennis play ball. He also enjoyed watching professional sports and was an avid baseball, curling and golf fan. One of his great loves was the sport of golf and he held a membership at the Gladstone Golf Club for many years. It was common for Clayton to go golfing on his own, and then meet up with friends from Gladstone or Plumas and go for a round. He golfed almost every day he could, right up to July of this year. Clayton was predeceased by his wife Helen in 1998 and his son Dennis in 2002; his parents George and Katie; his brothers Leonard, Red (Moffat) and Gerald; and brothers-in-law Vince and Marcel. Clayton will be missed and remembered by his son Brian (Valarie) and his daughter Brenda (Mike); his 5 grandchildren Noreen (Greg), Trent (Jen), Sandi, Greg (Patty), and Melissa; his 5 great-grandchildren Joshua, Noah, Sawyer, Talia, and Asher; and his special friend Louise. He also leaves to mourn his brother Gordon (Elsie); sisters Kathleen, Mary, Marjorie (Bob), and Margaret (Olie); sisters-in-law Marie and Mary; aunts Myrtle and Miriam. He will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews as well as the Hanke family. Memorial service will be held Monday, September 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Plumas United Church with Rev. George Cargo officiating. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Plumas United Church or to the Neepawa District Palliative Care.
