ELSIE CHARNEY 1921 - 2006 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Oakview Place at the age of 85. Elsie leaves behind her daughter, Lily Smith (Ken); grandson, Rick Smith (Sylvia); granddaughter, Kenda Marks (Kent) and the loves of her life, her great grandchildren, Warren, Koldyn and Rachel. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Jean Sacharuck (Kelowna) and brother, Peter Kalinocha (Calgary), as well as her sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, John of 54 years in 1992; her parents Fred and Anna Kalinocha; brothers Steve, John, Mike, Bill and Nick; sisters Pearl, Mary, Sophie and Ella. Mom was born in 1921 in Prud'homme, SK. There she met John and they married in 1939. In 1948 Mom and Dad moved to Moose Jaw, which was home for 40 years until 1991, at which time they moved to Winnipeg to be close to their family. Baba adored her family and spent many hours with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We have lost a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She made a great difference in our lives and will be greatly missed but always remembered. Thank you to the staff at Oakview for their care and kindness to Mom and their support to our family. Flowers are gratefully declined, and if desired, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Prayers and a Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, September 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Father Mark Tarrant officiating. Interment will follow.
