GERALD DAVID SIGURDSON May 4, 1942 - September 15, 2006 Funeral Service Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m. Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church Gerald David Sigurdson, a resident of Kenora, ON, passed away on September 15, 2006 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital at the age of 64. He was born on May 4, 1942 in Kenora, ON at St. Joseph's Hospital. The courageous way he lived was an inspiration to many. He completed Grade School and a typing program, working through many challenges. He succeeded in a program in Thunder Bay for the mentally challenged, then moving to London, ON with the Kozak family. Gerald worked with the Kozak family in their convenience store. Returning to Kenora he assisted seniors, then moved on to the C.P.R. telegraph as a messenger carrier until the position became obsolete. Gerald was a top Ontario Lottery Commission Agent for almost 30 years. He had many interests and passions. He was a sea cadet, belonged to a bowling team, enjoyed boating and travelling to the cottage at Big Storm Bay, was a member of the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies were various such as picture taking, collecting cards and records. His ability to recall birthdays and special occasions was remarkable and very impressive. Gerry had a humorous and sunny disposition for most of his life. Gerald's parents were extraordinary in their support and love. Gerald's extended family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews loved their Uncle Jerry. He will be welcomed by many people when he reaches his destination. Left to mourn are his sister Marie and brother-in-law Jack Hughes. The family extends their deepest appreciation and gratitude to any person who gave Gerald kindness. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Spielman, ICU at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Dr. Sommerville of the Schizophrenia Foundation of Manitoba, the residents at Pinecrest Nursing Home who were kind to Gerald and especially Marilyn Fortier, the Geriatric Consultant at Pinecrest Nursing Home. Prayers will be said on Friday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Rudy Manaloto, OMI officiating, with a private interment at Lake of the Woods Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Betty Posel, Barbara Friesen, Awlyn Burr, Don McLeod and Gary Lindstrom. The pallbearers are Mervin Metail, David Kruk, Michael Balaz, Charlie Porlier, Emile Prefontaine and John Bartkowiak. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kenora Schizophrenia Support Group or a charity of your choice.
