JEANETTE MARIE NIVEN With her loving family, friends and nurses surrounding her, Jeanette passed away peacefully at the Swan Valley Health Centre, Swan River, MB, on September 10, 2006. Jeanette was born in Regina, SK on July 31, 1939. She was a very educated individual, from her schooling in Minitonas, MB to the education she received at the Victoria General Hospital School Of Nursing in Winnipeg, MB, and her time spent at McGill University in Montreal, QC. Jeanette began nursing in 1960 in Winnipeg but her profession allowed her to nurse in other cities as well. Jeanette lived and nursed in Vancouver, BC, Montreal, Quebec, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and Morris, MB. She spent 25 years as head nurse of the Neuro-Surgical Ward at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Jeanette retired November 1993. During her life, she enjoyed her hobbies, which included golfing, hiking, swimming, travelling and playing cards. Jeanette is survived by her sister Pat (Tom Baird); brother Bob (Bev); companion Duke Russell; nieces, Sandy Lambert (Peter), Carol Lessmeister (Greg); Robert Niven (Tracey), Greg Niven (Michelle), Chris Ghazouly (Kelly), and great nieces, Hanna, Erin, Megan, Julia, Paige, Rachel, Madeleine; great nephews, Mac, Riley, Bradley and Jordan. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Irene Niven; her grandparents; her aunt and uncles. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, from the Knox United Church, Minitonas, MB, with Reverend Kathy Highmoor officiating. Following the service, Jeanette will be laid to rest in the Minitonas Cemetery. The active pallbearers are Chris Ghazouly, Peter Lambert, Todd Martin, Henry Kublick, Leo Hart and Nelson Swanston. The honourary pallbearers are The Odd Broad Squad, Lil Hart, Freida Folton, Ollie Dawson, Doreen Stich, and Carroll Henderson. Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Jeanette's honour may be made to the Swan Valley Health Facilities Foundation, the Knox United Church Memorial Fund, or to a charity of one's own choice.
