MARY LOUISE MCKENZIE (nee PITTS) We are sorry to announce that Mom died at the age of 90 on September 19, 2006 after a short illness. She is survived by her daughter Mary Elizabeth McKenzie (John Corp), her son Robert McKenzie (Jean), her grandchildren Daniel and Mary Jane McKenzie, her brother Joe Pitts, her sister Phyllis Moreau and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Duane McKenzie in 1961 and by her brothers Charles and Bob Pitts. Mom was born in Winnipeg on January 27, 1916 and grew up on Home Street. She attended St. Edward's School, St. Mary's Academy and the University of Manitoba where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1937. She married Duane in 1939 and following a brief period in Toronto, they moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan, where they built the family home. She returned to Winnipeg in 1967 and has spent the last 20 years living in the Villa Cabrini. Mom was an accomplished homemaker, cook and seamstress. She had a keen interest in world affairs and was an avid sports fan. On her return to Winnipeg, she actively volunteered for the Liberal Party, meals-on-wheels and CancerCare (wig service). The last few weeks of her life were spent in 7A South at St. Boniface General Hospital and we would like to thank the nursing and other staff there for their tender and loving care of her and us - care which was truly outstanding. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Her ashes will be interred in Duane's grave at Whitewood, Saskatchewan. We love you, Mom. Go in Peace.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I became acquainted with Mrs. Mary Louise McKenzie through her daughter, Mary Elizabeth McKenzie whom I befriended for a time when the McKenzie's resided in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Mary Elizabeth was a Registered Nurse. I also knew Duane McKenzie (Orpheum Theatre Owner), husband and father, and also their son, Robert McKenzie. I believe the family had roots in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. Mary Louise McKenzie was always so gracious to me when I visited Mary Elizabeth. I must say they were a fine, upstanding family and have left their mark in Estevan, Saskatchewan. I'll remember and pray for them! www.donjamesleblanc.com - Posted by: Donjames LeBlanc (Friend from Estevan, Saskatchewan) on: Jun 23, 2017
