Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(ELLEN) IRIS PARKES (nee STONEY) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother (Ellen) Iris Parkes on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. Iris was predeceased by her husband Clifford Parkes and son-in-law Tom Montgomery. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven children and their families who will miss her so very much. Ron (Connie), Wes (Pat), Bill (Suzie), Mary Lynne Montgomery, Brian (Bonnie), Barry, Sandra (Darrell Tymchuk); grandchildren, Darcy (Darren) Kelly (Angie), Chris, Jackie, Heather, Cliff, Kyle and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Keenan. Iris will also be sadly missed by her dearest friend Ethel Vokey, and her very special sister (in-law) Joan Arseniuk. Iris was born on November 10, 1920 in Winnipeg, the only child of Mary and William Arthur Stoney. She grew up on Greene Avenue in East Kildonan, and with the passing of her father in 1941, her stepfather Walter Sluggett became another important person in her life. She attended Lord Wolseley School for Grades 1 to 11, and was then employed at Canada Packers for several years. Iris married Clifford Allen Parkes on August 9, 1941, and they were happily married for 56 years until Cliff's passing in March of 1998. Mom was a loving and giving person whose life was devoted to her family. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends. Friday night get-togethers were a tradition at Mom's house! A very special part of her life was The Girls' Club , a close-knit circle of friends who have enjoyed each other's company for the past 49 years. Mom was an active member of the Prince Edward Legion Branch #81 Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years, where she was awarded a Life Membership. She was also involved in many Legion activities, and especially enjoyed Darts and Bingo. She was always present with camera in hand to photograph special events. Mom loved to travel, and England and Scotland held a special place in her heart. Mom, we are so lucky to have had you for our mother, and are so thankful for our years together. You're the best! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Interment at a later date.
