MAJOR (RET'D) GORDON ROBERT MACWILLIAM Peacefully, on September 21, 2006, at the Grace Hospital, Gordon passed away at the age of 81. Gordon was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret. He is survived by his daughters JoAnn Powell (Arnie) of Toronto and Leslie Van de Laar (Bob) of Ottawa, much loved grandchildren David, James, Steven, Nicole and Michael; sister Dorothy of Nova Scotia and brother-in-law Lawrence (Kay) of Nova Scotia. Gordon was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on November 17, 1924. Gordon volunteered for service during The Second World War and after completing aircrew training he served his country. Upon completion of his wartime service, he married the love of his life Margaret in 1946, and they spent 55 years together. Gordon re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1949, and enjoyed an exciting and fulfilling military career in the field of military engineering, eventually retiring in 1973. He commenced a second career as a civilian engineer at Air Command Headquarters in Winnipeg before his retirement in 1985. Gordon was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting and fishing. He possessed excellent mechanical abilities and was known by all as a man who could fix anything. Gordon was a lifelong baseball fan and always followed the Blue Jays games. As the son of a Baptist minister, Gordon always had a strong Christian faith and a commitment to Christian service. Gordon was an active member of St. James Presbyterian Church. Gordon will always be remembered for his outgoing and fun-loving personality. All who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor, quick wit and positive outlook on life. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family and his generosity to others. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, chaplains and staff of the Grace Hospital for their kindness and care. We would also like to thank Gordon's many friends and neighbors for the amazing kindness and support they gave to both Gordon and his daughters during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 27 at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1476 Portage Avenue, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Innes. A reception will follow the service.
