GLADYS RINGLAND It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Ringland (Blaskey) on September 21, 2006. Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Allyson Johnson (Ringland), son-in-law Derek Johnson, granddaughter Shelby Johnson, brother Brian Blaskey, sister Sharon Stevens, niece Shantelle Stevens along with her many friends and colleagues. Gladys was born in Winnipeg in 1933, and grew up in Fort Rouge. In her youth, she volunteered as a Candy Striper at the Misericordia Hospital. As well, she was an active member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club, was part of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and played violin in an orchestra. In 1951, she graduated from Kelvin High School, and began working with the TD Bank at the Portage and Notre Dame branch. Gladys would soon find a home with a company she loved, and subsequently moved into a branch manager position. This was an enormous achievement at the time, being one of the first female bank managers in Canada. On top of her many accomplishments, she was instrumental in the creation of seniors banking at Meadowwood Manor in St. Vital. As it would turn out, Gladys loved the challenge and company culture that the TD Bank offered, and would inevitably retire after 37 years. Prior to her retirement, she became an active member on the board of the Arthritis Society, a position she cherished for several years. Gladys would commit much of her time and energy to this worthy cause till the day of her passing. In her retirement, Gladys enjoyed to travel extensively, get together with her many friends, and took much pleasure in the many social aspects of her life. She was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for many years, and spent much time with Allyson at the games. She adored her granddaughter Shelby, taking her to lunch, movies, art galleries and Disney World last year for her birthday. She was a great cook, and loved reading a good book. Gladys was predeceased by her parents Mary and Peter, as well as her brother Wallace. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gladys' memory to the Arthritis Society, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3V7.
