SOPHIE CHORNEY (nee BURBELLA) Peacefully on September 22, 2006 at the Tudor House Personal Care Home, Sophie Chorney, aged 87 years, passed away. Sophie was born at Highland Glen, MB on February 22, 1919, daughter of the late William and Mary Burbella. She married Michael Chorney in 1938 and together operated their own potato and grain farm in the East Selkirk area for over 50 years. She was a very hardworking woman and enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, gardening, and took great pride in her yard, especially her roses which were always a showcase. Mike and Sophie moved to Selkirk in 1955 and continued farming until 1990. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Mike in 2005; her parents, sisters, Annie, Katie and Ettie; brothers, Mike and Peter; sisters-in-law, Frances and Rose Burbella and many dear friends. She leaves surviving two sisters, Mary Ash of Winnipeg and Lena Hnatiuk (Maurice) of Tyndall and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating. Viewing at the church one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Her pallbearers will be William and Maurice Burbella, Ron and Alan Drobot, and Ken and Richard Hnatiuk. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
