Date of Passing: Sep 24, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCURLIS M. GRANT On Sunday morning, September 24, 2006 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care wing, Miss Curlis M. Grant passed away peacefully. She was the last child of her parents, Augustus and Amanda Grant and her siblings, Cedric, Alphanso, Mrs. Bernice Ellis and Mrs. Nancy Kelly, all who have predeceased her. Curlis is survived by nephews and nieces and many other relatives in Jamaica, England and Canada. During the latter stage of her illness, Curlis was comforted by the presence of Milton Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Grant; nephews from Jamaica and England respectively, Mrs. Louise Grant (sister-in-law); as well as her adopted children, Mrs. Michelle Bagg and Miss Lorraine Grant. Besides these, there was a circle of wonderful, intimate friends who devoted their energies to filling her last days with care, love, warmth and compassion. Numbered among them are Louise and Daphne Shaw, Hazel Jones, Beryle Mae Jones, Professor and Mrs. D.K. Gordon, and Miss Carmen Nembhardt; Honourary Consul of Jamaica in Winnipeg. Curlis immigrated to Canada after completing her certification as an educator / teacher in Jamaica. After her arrival she continued her educational quest and acquired certification as a professional librarian and also as an educator. Her thirst for self empowerment and personal growth is reflected in her pursuit of continuing education, her acquisition of fluency in at least three languages, her interests in the arts and music, and the development of her cosmopolitan tastes, nurtured by her travel. This obituary would be incomplete without paying tribute to the dedicated and thoroughly professional staff of the Palliative unit of the St. Boniface Hospital. Their compassion, maturity and empathy went far beyond the mere required professional input. The family was greatly assisted in coping with the challenges associated with Curlis' transition. Many thanks to Doctor Shyah Delarom and nurse Clare for being understanding representatives for your teams. Special thanks also to Father Henry Falconer for his spiritual guidance and counsel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, at Donald and Graham. Donations in Curlis' memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Outreach Ministry, 256 Smith Street, R3C 1K1. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
