KATHLEEN M. MCBRIDE (KAY SPOONER) Aunt Kay died on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Riverview Health Centre where she lived for the past five years. Born in Winnipeg on January 17, 1920 to Ella Meehan and Thomas Spooner, she was one of seven children. The family lived on Fleet Street and Kay attended St. Ignatius School and St. Mary's Academy. After high school, she helped care for her ill sister Helen and her mother at home. She then worked for CN Tele-communications and in 1943 married the tall dark and handsome Harold McBride. She continued to work for CN in Vancouver where she moved with Harold who was stationed there in the Air Force. They returned to Winnipeg to be with family and she eventually took a stenographic course and worked for the Workers Compensation Board for over 25 years as a medical secretary to the Chief Medical Officer. In her retirement, she travelled with family and took up needlework which suited her sense of creativity, and her preciseness with detail. Kay is survived by her two beloved sisters, Dorothy Curran and Doris Sponarski; her brother-in-law Roy McBride; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her much beloved husband, Harold in 1982. She was also predeceased by her brother Ed (Eileen Poyntz); and by her sisters, Margaret (Les Atkin), Audrey (Fred Campbell), Helen; and her brothers-in-law, Phil Curran and Joe Sponarski; and her nephew Wayne Starr. Prayers for Kay will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway and a Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Parish, 249 Arnold Avenue (corner of Arnold and Osborne).
