Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryL. ALMA JOHNSTON August 26, 1921 - August 27, 2006 At the age of 85, Alma passed away peacefully at the Tri-Lake Health Centre in Killarney, MB. Left to cherish her memory are her children - Terry (Becky), David (Lorrie), Kelly, and Rae (Len), her grandchildren - Katherine, Devon, Stephanie, Alison, Katelyn and Jonathan, her brother David (Marge), her sisters - Dorothy (Gerald), Margaret (Rob) and Audrey (Maurice) sisters-in-law - Ramona and Rose, brothers-in-law - Vagn and Bob, many nieces, nephews and friends. Alma was predeceased by her husband Ken, her parents Harold and Evelyn Floyd, brothers Dick and Doug, sisters Frances, Joyce and Marion and numerous aunts and uncles. Alma was born in Lloydminster, SK, the second of 10 children. She lived in several places in Saskatchewan until 1941 when she moved to Melita, MB to live with her grandfather and finish her high school. In 1945 she moved to Brandon to begin nurses training at the Brandon General Hospital and she graduated in 1948. During that time she met the love of her life - Ken Johnston. They were married November 3, 1951 and shared almost 54 years together. As a child and the second oldest, Alma was quite often responsible for her younger siblings. She would cook for the family as well as the work teams on the farm. As a teen and young adult she participated in the local young peoples church group. In later years, having children of her own, she was always involved in things they were doing. Alma was also very involved in the community and in the church. She was a 4-H sewing leader, a member of the church choir, part of the UCW and the Horticultural Society. She also volunteered time at the food bank, delivered Meals on Wheels and Christmas Cheer hampers and was a life-line buddy. Alma loved to cook and bake and garden. Over the years she won many prizes at the local fair for her baking, preserves and her beautiful flowers. Her baking would quickly disappear at the local bake sales. Alma was a friend to all she knew. She was true and loyal to all those around her. Alma loved music. She never learned to play a musical instrument but she loved to sing. She and Ken would often sing songs together, much to the family's delight. They were also an awesome couple on the dance floor. Family was always top priority. Alma made these times special with her love and caring. In later years, Alma loved to spend time with her grandchildren, playing games or just spending time together. Alma's biggest gifts in life were her limitless capacity to love and to find something good in everything that came her way. Alma will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all that knew her. Alma and Ken are together again. Cremation and a memorial service took place on Friday, September 1, 2006 in Killarney. For those that wish, donations may be made in Alma's memory to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to the Killarney United Church Building Fund, in care of Killarney United Church, Killarney, MB R0K 1G0.
