AXEL VICTOR JOHNSON 1915 - 2006 We sadly announce the passing of Victor Johnson on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Dad was born in Winnipeg on January 31, 1915 to parents Annie and Gustaf (Johnson) Johannasson (deceased) of Lac Lu, ON, where Dad was raised and completed his schooling. Predeceased by his wife Helga (Stefansson) of 60 years in 2003; daughter Theresa Lohse in 2004; sister Katherine Olson and brother Edwin Johnson. Dad will be sadly missed by his daughter Jo Ann Wiebe; granddaughters, Amanda and Jenna Wiebe; son-in-law Al Lohse, all of Winnipeg. Son Alan Johnson (Eva); daughter Gloria (Mike) Prokopow; grandsons, Kevin Hansen, Dean (Lisa) Hansen and great-grandson Jordan Hansen, all of Calgary. Sister Nell Bergvall; sisters-in-law, Colleen Johnson, Kenora, Olaf (Thor) Viking, Seattle, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad and Mom made their home in Kenora, ON where Dad was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway (B B) until retirement at the age of 60. Not ready to retire completely, Dad and Mom relocated to Winnipeg where they became caretakers of Tiffany Towers for a number of years. Throughout Dad's working career he was never able to turn down a job and was a handyman extraordinaire and a meticulous gardener, where he accepted seasonal work with the City of Winnipeg tending the gardens at Assiniboine Park. Dad continued to work and drive until the age of 88. Victor was a Veteran of the Second World War and is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Fort Garry Branch No. 90. Dad was a proud member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Dad spent countless hours with his family camping and travelling. He loved music especially playing the accordion, dancing, gardening, hockey and participating in social events. A celebration of Victor's life will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge St., Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 2. Interment will be held prior to service at 12:00 noon at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Neil Bardal Funeral Home, Winnipeg, MB.
