Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARDAR GISLASON It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gardar on Monday night, September 25, 2006 at the Grace General Hospital with his family by his side. Gardar was predeceased by his parents, Thorsteinn and Paulina, his sister Gudny, his brothers, Gisli and Kris, his niece Enid and nephew David. He is survived by his wife Elsie, his sister Dora Sigurdson of Gimli, sister-in-law Pauline of Lloydminster, nephews and nieces, Wilfred, Lorna, Hugh, Judy, Brian and Donna. Also left to mourn are Elsie's children, Wayne (Debbie), Ed (Barb), and Donna Rae (Mark), and their children, Lance, Derek (Claudia), David, Darren (Jocelyn), Shane, Matthew, Kelly and Alexander. Gardar was born at Steep Rock, Manitoba. Being a good Icelander, he began his fishing career at a young age with his Dad. He served in the army during the Second World War: Then he returned to commercial fishing in the winter and carpentry in the summer. He also worked for the Department of Fisheries in various Manitoba locations. He spent the last 15 years before retirement working for the St. James Assiniboia School Division. After retirement in 1986 Gardar was a very active and involved grandfather to Matthew, Kelly and Alexander. He will always be remembered, appreciated and loved for his kindness, care and loving spirit. Cremation has taken place and at Gardar's request, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Borrett and the staff at the Grace Hospital (5th floor) for their compassionate and skilled care of Gardar during this difficult time.
