Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED (ALF) GEORGE BURFOOT November 4, 1911 - September 26, 2006 After a long life, the Burfoot family announces the passing of our Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. Alf was the beloved husband of 65 years to Catherine (Rena) nee Gair. Mum passed away October 14, 2005 and it seems like Dad has been waiting his turn to join with her again. We will miss you Dad, your son Robert (Bob) and wife Linda; daughter Rosalind Scaife and life mate Robert Cancade; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Glen and daughter Megan; Brent and daughters Alix and Katie; Colleen and Darcy Unger, son Colton as well as a wee one to soon arrive; Catherine Scaife and life mate James Roy. Alf was predeceased by his parents, George and Alice, his sister Phyllis Keyworth and husband Frank; sister May Forbes and husband Don; sister-in-law Evelyn the wife of brother Bob Burfoot the last surviving sibling. Dad served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War and was a member of the Capital Lodge Masons. He met and married his soul mate Rena in August 1940. As a young man Alf belonged to the Wahoo Athletic Club and started going to Grand Beach along with his brother Bob. After a long career with the Federal Government Taxation Department Dad retired and he and Mum were fortunate to do a fair amount of travelling and cruising with close friends. The little cottage at Grand Beach was their main get-away. During the winter they could be found at Assiniboine Park skating on the pond in winter or walking the Zoo in the spring and fall. One of many places the grandchildren went on outings with them. Even though he started late in life, Dad was an avid golfer and had a couple of hole in-ones to his credit, one which was recorded. As in all his endeavours perfection was a must. Dancing, square dancing, calling squares as well as curling at the Thistle, Civic Caledonia and Valour Road were some of Dad's passions. He was an excellent carpenter and could do anything he put his hand to but never seemed to be satisfied with his work. Dad always had a song to sing or hum which could be heard as he went about his day and often stumped Mum and I with a tune we hadn't heard before. Dad's later years he and Rena resided at Middlechurch Home. Our special thanks to some of the dedicated staff and Dr. Haligowski who cared for Dad. In keeping with the family wishes a family graveside service will be held in the spring for Dad and Mum as they are buried side by side. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2, or the Assiniboine Park Zoo and Conservatory, 15 Conservatory Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2N5.
