Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE ELIZABETH (BETTY) BLAKE-KNOX (nee LESTER) May 9, 1915 September 28, 2006 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Betty Blake-Knox, aged 91 years of Grand Marais. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1998; her brother Martial in 1945; father George in 1954; mother Marie in 1964; and granddaughter Krista in 1983. Left to mourn are her brothers, Ted (Marie), Syd; and her sister Alice Redman; her children, Denis (Dorothy), Bryan (Erin), Teresa (Reg) Gagnon and Florence Watson; grandchildren, Kathy (Doug), Darren (Renee), Jay, Roberta (Cory), Pam (Rick), Gina, Misty, Tricia and Kelly; 15 grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mom was a pillar in the community of Grand Marais, where she lived with her family since 1950. She had a well developed social conscience and was a consummate volunteer. She and dad owned Harry's Hideout, where they ran movies and dances. They also published a monthly paper, The Grand Beach Spotlight for 30 years. Mom was also the post-mistress at Grand Beach for many years. Mom was an avid reader, did a lot of knitting, sewing and rug making. Every year she bought dolls, made clothes for them and dressed them up for the Christmas cheer board. Her great love was her children and especially her grandchildren. She had a lot of pride in her family. A memorial Mass will be held in the St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Grand Marais on Tuesday, October 3 at 12:00 noon with Fr. Gerry Sembrano officiating. Interment of ashes to take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital, 4th and 5th floors, and the staff at Pine Falls Hospital for the care of mom in her last two months. Also thanks to her many friends in the beaches area for their kindness, and a big thanks to her bingo buddies! Thank you, Denis and Dorothy for your love and care. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
