GEORGE ARTHUR BRADFORD HAACKE
Born: Apr 06, 1923
Date of Passing: Sep 27, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE ARTHUR BRADFORD HAACKE Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, surrounded by his family and bathed in love, Dad slipped away to be with his Lord. Born in Winnipeg on April 6, 1923, George lived much of his life in Winnipeg, although he spent over 20 years living in Montreal, having moved there with Air Canada in 1971. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Delaine, on November 6, 1990. Left to cherish his memory are his six children - Garry (Kathy) Haacke of Belmont, MA; Leanne (David) Bardal of Winnipeg; Gaylene (Gary) Hendrick of Calgary; Lyle Haacke of Montreal; Roslyn (Glenn) Steinbrenner of Calgary; and Ross (Tracy) Haacke of Oakville, ON; thirteen grandchildren - Robert and Elizabeth Haacke; Chelsea (Tommy Manuel) Bardal; Jenna (Jamie) Evans; Kaylie and Eamon Bardal; Michael, Alison and Ian Hendrick; Kyle, Cole, Brynne and Hillary Steinbrenner; and most recently and very special to their great-grandpapa, Owen Alexander and Hayden Bradford Evans. He will be missed greatly by his long time dear friend Florence McDevitt; three surviving sisters, Gladys Jessop, Barb Gislason, and Betty (Lawrence) Harman; numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Dad's heart was set on serving his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in all areas of his life. He was very involved in many areas of church life, both in Winnipeg (Calvary Temple), as well as in Montreal (Lakeshore Evangelical). He served on church boards as treasurer, as well as with youth development through Christian Service Brigade and Red Rock Camp, and the seniors group. If we were to summarize Dad's life, he was a devoted and loving husband, a warm and nurturing father, an unbelievable Papa and Grandfather, and most recently a wonderful Great-Grandpapa! Family was all important to Dad and he loved nothing more than to be together with them as well as good friends. Our hearts are filled with many happy memories of these times which were full of laughter, often due to Dad's wonderful (albeit corny) sense of humour. His gentle loving nature and his insistence on seeing the funny side of things persisted until the very end of his life. He was still sharing jokes with the nursing staff in his final hours. Our family is very appreciative of the wonderful care dad received in both Ward 5B as well as the Surgical ICU of St. Boniface Hospital. Well, at the end of it all, what is Dad's legacy? He taught us how to laugh in good times and in the midst of difficult circumstances. He taught us the meaning of hard work, honesty, and the importance of prayer as a constant element of one's life. Dad, you will be greatly missed - You fought the good fight - you finished the race, and we know that you have gone to a much better place and that you are re-united with Mom. Until we meet again. Viewing will be held on Friday, September 29, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (Aubrey Street entrance) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 30, at Calvary Temple, 440 Hargrave Street, at 11:00 a.m., with viewing at 10:00 a.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
