JAMES GRANT DYKES Peacefully at home after a brief illness on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at age 86. Beloved husband of Jeanne (nee Wyndels); loving father of Jennifer (Then); and devoted grandfather of Jay and Christianne. Predeceased by his brother John and sister Marion Prober, he will be fondly remembered by his and Jeanne's many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Winnipeg, he received a B.Com. from the University of Manitoba. His service during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy (1941-45) included posting on H.M.C.S. Athabascan. He retired as Lieut-Commdr. James continued in public service as a Trade Commissioner in Ottawa and London, England and Industrial Commissioner in Windsor, ON. From 1954 until his retirement in 1985, he was President of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers' Association, Toronto, where he helped lay the groundwork for the Canada-U.S. Auto Pact. James will be remembered for his unfailing adherence to his personal belief that courtesy, kindness and good humour make the world a better place. A service to celebrate James' life will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, Toronto (1-800-616-3311), on Friday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a reception. If desired, donations for research may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
