ARNOLD HUMMELT Suddenly but peacefully, our husband, father and grandfather Arnold Hummelt passed away at Selkirk District Hospital. He will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Lydia; children, Monika (Richard) Hansen, Bob (Cathy) and Ron (Adele); and grandchildren, Kris, Kendra, Mark, Erik, Erika, Chelsea, Kara, Jocelyn and Jayne. He was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Albertina; brothers, Willi and Ludwig. He is survived by his sister Alvina (Helmut) Janke; brother-in-law Ed (Darlene) Lange; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Dale) Downs, Lili (Ron) Befus; cousin Gerhard Hummelt of Germany; and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born on April 7, 1936 in Dimitrowka, Ukraine. He experienced war and life as a refugee and counted his immigration to Canada as a blessing. Dad had to earn his own way very early in life, and eventually was able to operate his own upholstery shop, Continental Upholstery with Mom in Selkirk. He prided himself in his craftsmanship and his desire to honestly serve his customers. Dad had many passions. His love for the outdoors led him to many hunting and fishing trips, and he enjoyed his cabin days in Lac du Bonnet with family and friends. He was a member of St. Hubertus Game and Fish Association and took part in many shootfests with his friends. Dad experimented with hobby farming, which has given the family much material for storytelling. Dad was a close follower of current events and politics, and had a keen memory for the most minute historical detail. Dad gave his life to the Lord in his teens, and his relationship with Christ strengthened as the years passed. He was a devoted member of Selkirk Community Church, and valued the fellowship he found there. To Opa, his family was paramount. Not a day went by without him wondering how his children and grandchildren were faring, and he was proud of their accomplishments, big or small. A celebration of Arnold's life will be held on Thursday, October 5, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation half hour prior. Services will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Pastor Don Petker officiating. Interment to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations on Dad's behalf can be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4 or Selkirk Community Church, 210 Main St., Selkirk, MB R1A 1R8. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
