MARY WACH The family announces with great sadness the passing of Auntie Mary' on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Holy Family Nursing Home. Mary was born to Josef and Ksenia (nee Ivanchuk) Bazylo on February 3, 1920 in Ethlebert, Manitoba where she received her education. She came to Winnipeg in 1943 and worked mostly as a cafeteria supervisor at F. W. Woolworths until her retirement in 1986. She was a long time member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and its UCWLC, and the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organization. After retirement, Mary did volunteer work for her church and especially at Holy Family Nursing Home. She and her candy cart were very much appreciated by the residents there for twelve years until ill health forced her to quit this enjoyable activity. Mary was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1974 after his prolonged and severe disability from a car accident; her father in 1964; her mother in 1985; her brother John in 1991 and grand-nephew Brent Dixon in 1985. She is survived by two nieces, Nadia (Harold) Trafananko in Prince Albert, SK and Janice (Rick) Dixon in Ethelbert, MB; two grandnieces, Orysia (Trevor) Roskewich in Toronto, ON and Lesya (Chris) Bantle in Prince Albert, SK; sister-in-law Pearl Bazylo in Dauphin, MB; brother-in-law Stan (Herta) Wach in Winnipeg, as well as other relatives and numerous friends. Mary loved her family and friends very much and was very kind and generous. She travelled considerably in her latter years and was especially helpful to relatives in Ukraine whom she visited twice. Mary was a very good cook, a chic dresser and an especially well organized person. In her final years, she resided at Holy Family Nursing Home. She possessed a deep spirituality, a good sense of humour and a positive outlook on life which served her well when she faced hardships including declining health over many years. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Prayers will be sung at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 6 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, also at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating.
