GREGORY JOHN DORLAND November 16, 1947 - October 1, 2006 Peacefully, on October 1, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre, Greg, Dad, Grandpa died with family at his side. He will be lovingly missed by his special friend Kat; children, Greg Jr. (Vanessa), Cathy Jr., Sean and Kenton; sisters, Janet and Cathy (Wayne); grandchildren, Kenny, Cameron, Jade and Nikita; nephew Jason (Yesenia); niece Tara (Frank); grandniece Gabriela; and Auntie Carol (Louis). Greg was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and William. Greg was born in Winnipeg on November 16, 1947. Like his father before him, he grew up on the edge of the Canadian Shield in Manitoba Hydro town sites along the Winnipeg River. For the past 18 years, Greg had a career in sales and was a valued and respected employee of Xentel. Sports were always a big part of Greg's life. He was an amateur wrestler in his younger years, loved fishing and playing baseball, and was an ardent Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers fan. Greg was an avid curler from his teen years, and he looked forward to skipping another season with family and friends. Greg was a loving man. He was fond of animals; especially his cat babies Cuddles and Mischief. Always kind-hearted, Greg would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was very sociable and liked nothing better than a cup of coffee with friends or a game of cards with family. Greg especially loved spending time at the family cottage in Matlock, playing tennis, croquet and beachcombing. He was a skilled handyman and had recently built a new roof for the screen house and re-painted the cottage. Greg was a great cook and presided over many family barbecues. Weekends almost always included finding bargains at garage sales, drives down River Road and a foot long hotdog at the Half Moon. The many pictures in his home attest to Greg's love for his family. He showed us by the way he lived that he valued and accepted people as they were, lived life on life's terms without complaints, appreciated his blessings, and enjoyed life to its fullest. We celebrate Greg's life, and we will deeply miss him. We know his spirit will always be with us. We thank the doctors and nurses at MICU and GA4, the Spiritual Care Department, especially Pastors Ted Hicks and Kurt Schwarz, and social worker Joanne Lysyk at the Health Sciences Centre and Pastor Lanny Knutson, for their care and support of Greg and his family. The memorial service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 7 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Road, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6. Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200
