VALERIE DOWN (nee DAVIES) Passed on with great dignity, pride, and courage with her daughters, Lorie and Kelly by her side at Ste. Anne Hospital on Monday, October 9th, 2006. Valerie was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Gordon, in May 2006 and her parents, Lillian and Ross. She is survived by her brothers, Sheldon and Mac. Valerie will always be loved and missed by her four children: Russell (Debbie), Loreen (Ron Beckett), Kelly (Jacob Hes), Jason (Angelia) and her eight grandchildren: Peter, Kelly, Matthew, Nicholas, Christopher, Molly, Wesley, and Rebbecca. Valerie was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She worked as a key punch operator for various companies and was a stay at home mom. Valerie was a member of the Order of the Royal Purple and an avid bowler in her younger years. Valerie was not only a wife, mother, and nana; she was an encouragement and inspiration to many of those she spoke to or came in contact with during her battle with cancer. Valerie's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Ste. Anne Hospital for the excellent care and support during her lengthy hospital stay. A special thanks to Evelyn who Mom called her guardian angel. Remembrances may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X3 in Valerie's name. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place on Friday, October 12, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception to follow.
