Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKSENIA (SONIA) KIZIUK (nee JAWORISKA) 1922 - 2006 It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sonia Kiziuk, age 84, at the St Pierre Nursing Home, on Saturday, October 7, 2006. Sonia was born on March 2, 1922, in Vishenka, Ukraine, to Tekla and Mikita Jaworiski. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Peter, sisters Maria and Julia, two siblings in infancy, as well as her husband, William. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Donna (Aaron) Redekop; her three grandchildren: David (Jennifer), Robert (Darlene), and Kathryn (Bryan) Payne; two great grandchildren; Connor Bryce Redekop and Samuel Aaron Joseph Payne. Mom (grandma) immigrated to Canada from Germany with her daughter Donna in November, 1949. She married William Kiziuk on April 15th, 1950, and they lived in Arnaud, MB, until her husband passed away in November 1975 of cancer. Mom (grandma) had a long and eventful life and survived the war in Germany working as a laborer on a farm in Wasseralfingen. She was removed from her home in the Ukraine at the age of 18 by the German army and sent to Germany, never to see her family again. After the war, friends wrote to Canada about her and her small daughter. This lead to her writing to her future husband William, who brought her to Canada. In later years, she was able to locate her family through the Red Cross and wrote to her mother and sisters for several years. Sonia went to work as a housekeeper in Winnipeg after the death of her husband. She worked until her health forced her to retire and move to Niverville to be close to her daughter. Her grandchildren will always remember her stories about all her experiences and great love and respect for her family. Sonia's greatest surprise was to live past 80 and she thought this was a huge milestone for her. Another joy for her was to have her two great grandsons visit her and explore her apartment. She was baptized at Calvary Temple and rejoiced about her Christian faith and her love for her Lord until her death. We would find Grandma, most days, napping in her favorite chair in her apartment and whenever we would wake her, she would usually respond with I wasn't sleeping, only resting my eyes. Now we will respond to her Grandma, you can rest your eyes until we all meet again . Many thanks to the staff of the St. Pierre Nursing Home for all their care. Viewing will take place Wednesday, October 11 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30. Interment will be held at the Arnaud Cemetery, Thursday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m., at Word of Life Mission Church, 233 3rd Street S., Niverville, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba Division) 200 310 Broadway; Wpg., MB R3C 0S6 in Sonia's memory, or to a charity of ones choice.
