KATARYNA KOSTYK (nee JANIW) October 9, 1924 - October 10, 2006 Having recently celebrated her 82nd Birthday, Kataryna Kostyk passed away after a lengthy illness at Concordia Hospital. She was predeceased by her husbands, John Janiw and Sylvester Kostyk and her mother and father in Ukraine, Baba and Dedo Lewicka. Mother was an active member of the Ukrainian Church Sts. Vladimir and Olga, and a member of Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita Senior Citizens Club. Our mother leaves to mourn, her children, Stephy and Okcana, their husbands, Paul and Richard, and the many friends she has made during her years of her life. Born in Ukraine, mother and daughter Stephy came to Winnipeg in 1950 to join her husband John Janiw via Germany. Okcana was born November 24, 1952 and they lived in Benito for two years. Dad passed away April 1967. She married Sylvestor in 1968, and lived in the States for 35 years until his death January 14, 2002. She came back to Winnipeg and lived at Ivan Franko Manor. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses and staff at Manitoba CancerCare, and Concordia Hospital for all the excellent care they have given to our mother. Prayers will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, Stella and McGregor. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 13 at 10:00 a.m. also at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. After interment a lunch will be served at Prosvita Hall at 777 Pritchard Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kataryna's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
