MARIA ZUK (nee OWCZAREK) It is with deep sadness the family of Mary Zuk announces her sudden passing on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Mary leaves to mourn her husband of 31 years Bob and her children Kevin (Michelle), Kyle and Nicole. She is survived by her mother Helena Owczarek, brothers, Stan (Joanne) and Edward Owczarek and sister Zofia Lantagne (Gilles). Mary was predeceased by her father Walter Owczarek and infant daughter Julie Zuk. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Mary was born in Namyslow, Poland on January 18, 1953. She came to Canada with her parents and siblings when she was six years old and grew up on the family farm in Fraserwood, MB. After graduating from Gimli High School she began working at Saunders Aircraft in Gimli where she met and then married her husband Bob. Mary left the workforce in 1978 and began a full time career as mother and housewife when her first son was born. She loved her family and did everything she could for them. As her children got older she began to volunteer at the schools her children attended and began working as a Teacher's Aid with special needs children. Even though her health was failing rapidly, she still wanted to go to work but was not able. She loved working with her students and found it very rewarding. She will be deeply missed by her students and fellow coworkers. Mary loved her children and was really looking forward to seeing her first grandchild. She had begun knitting a blanket for the baby but was not able to finish. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Zaki and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and attention. Prayers will be held at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli on Sunday, October 15 at 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Gimli, MB with Fr. Wayne Morrisey officiating. Interment will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery, Fraserwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Seven Oaks General Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.

Mrs. Zuk, I remember when I used to live behind your house on Cail. When Nicole would hop your backyard fence to play. I was young but I remember how friendly and hospitable you were.
