NATALIE WESTPHAL Peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, Natalie Westphal, beloved wife of the late Friedrich Westphal, passed away at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 81 years. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her sons, Fred (Cindy), Ed (Debbie), Gary (Sheila) and Eric; daughters, Carol (Ross) Goodmansson and Betty McGregor; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Braeden, Katrina, Darryl, Matt, Scott, Kristen, Erik, Stephanie, Scott, Tyler, Megan, Jennifer and Paige. Mom was born in Laschingen, Poland and endured difficult years during and following the Second World War. Those years contributed to the development of great strength and determination which served her well throughout the rest of her life. She immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s eventually settling in Winnipeg. She married Fred in 1956 and together they raised their family in South Winnipeg. Despite some difficult years, Mom always found creative ways to make a wonderful home for her family regardless of personal sacrifice. Until her retirement in 1992, her outstanding culinary skills led her to a number of positions within the food-services industry including the Happy Vineyard, the Khartum Temple of the Shrine. Natalie was a wonderful mother and Oma who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, especially if it involved cooking for them. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street with Pastor Alfredo Velasco officiating. A private family interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery. Flowers are graciously declined; however friends and relatives may choose to make memorial contributions to the Riverview Health Centre or to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. Natalie's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the AB2 and CD1 Wings at the Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care and kindness she received during her years of residence.
