Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN WILLIAM LIEN 1921 - 2006 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on October 10, 2006. John is survived by his loving wife Musa; children, Elaine (Jake), Tidge (Jack), Linda (Harvey), Travis (Diane); 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister Marjorie and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Gladys and Dorothy; grandson Robbie; brother-in-law Lorne Kew; and nephews, Brian and Barry. John was born August 14, 1021 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan to Halvor and Dorothy Lien. He was their firstborn and only son. John retained an affection for his hometown all his life - still reading the Lanigan Advisor in his last years in Gull Lake, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dad married Musa Fisher in 1944 and they began their life together farming in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan before coming to Manitoba to begin his career as a grain elevator agent, first for the Federal Grain Co. and later for Manitoba Pool Elevators. He and Musa spent 39 years in the Manitoba towns of Hodgson and Warren. John was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing with his many friends. He loved baseball, hockey and curling. He also played many musical instruments, playing in a dance band in his younger years. Dad enjoyed camping with his family, leaving them with many fond memories of Beaver Creek, Lake Ste. George and the Blue lakes. Dad spent many hours in his meticulous garden, planting every year well into his 80s. Since his retirement, he enjoyed time spent with his brother-in-law Russell Costain in Neeb, Saskatchewan and his good friends, Chris Riddell of Warren and Vern Nichol of Brandon, Manitoba . Our father was a good, honest, hard-working man and he instilled those fine qualities in his four children. We will miss him. The family would like to thank Dr. Masek and the nursing staff on the fifth floor at the Grace Hospital. Cremation has taken place. At John's request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will take place in Lanigan Cemetery. neil bardal inc. 949-2200
