LORRAINE COMRIE (nee ANDERS) Peacefully on October 11, 2006, Lorraine passed away at the Grace Hospice. Her gentle soul will live on forever in God's spirit and in our hearts. Lorraine was born in Headingley on January 5, 1923 to Thomas and Margaret Anders. Her childhood years were happily spent with her older brothers and sister, Winston, Thurston and Genevieve. At the age of 13, the family moved into Winnipeg and Lorraine attended school at Laura Secord and Gordon Bell. With secretarial training, Lorraine later worked for legal firms and for National Grain. In 1948, Lorraine and George Comrie were married in Winnipeg and for 58 years they enjoyed a life built on love and respect. In the early years, George's work took them to several cities in Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Ontario. In 1965 they returned to Winnipeg and for the next 40 years, called Nightingale Road in St.James their home. In December 2005, Lorraine and George moved to the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. Family and friends meant everything to Lorraine and she was a wonderful home-maker. She enjoyed entertaining and baking, golf, bowling, bridge and needlepoint. Once the kids finished school, Lorraine returned to work for several years in the office of Contact Lens Services. In all that she did, Lorraine was gracious and caring. Petite in stature but a mountain of inner strength, Lorraine defied the medical odds time and again. Her quiet and unwavering strength of will has left an indelible impression on us forever. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents and siblings, sister-in-law Jeanette Anders and brother-in-law Robert Clarke. Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband George; children, Bruce (Lesly), Wayne and Joanne (Paul) O'Driscoll; grandchildren, Allison and Jennifer Comrie, Warren and Brett Comrie and their mother Shelley Wenger and Billy Blackwood and his father John Blackwood. Lorraine will also be missed by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Anders, Bert (Irene) Comrie, George (Isobel) Nichol, nieces, nephews and many friends. For the past several years, Lorraine received excellent medical care from many people. We are deeply grateful to all the physicians, nurses and home care workers who brightened Lorraine's days and made her road an easier one. In particular our thanks go to Dr. N. Hanna, Dr. P. Harris, Mark Shepherd, Barb Shorey and the extraordinary staffs of the Grace Oncology Clinic, Riverview 3East and the Grace Hospice. We invite family and friends to a celebration of Lorraine's life to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, Rev. Bill Corkum officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, may make a donation in Lorraine's memory to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7 or to the charity of one's choice. neil bardal inc. 949-2200
