Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySISTER LEONA TRAUTMAN SOS (Sisters of Service) Died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, ON, Thursday, October 12, 2006, having served 63 years as a Sister of Service. Born in Orillia, ON, April 20, 1913, she was the eldest of the eight children born to Joseph F. Trautman and Ethel Hundt, both of Formosa, ON. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elmina (Lorne) Koehler, Agnes (Pat) Hesch, Helen (Everett) Rowe, Mary (Roy) Green and survived by her sisters, Rita (Glen) Hastings, Kathleen Maynard and her brother Howard (Marie) Trautman. Graduating from Winnipeg Norman School in 1941, her teaching career spanned four provinces - Camp Morton, MB, Sinnett, SK, Rycroft, AB and Wexford, Christian Island and Moosonee, ON. Her passion for teaching was all inclusive, employing all means and methods to interest children in learning, using crafts as one of her creative approaches in teaching. Her interests and concern to help newcomers to Canada to adapt to their new country took many forms, actively seeking those who were in need and responding in creative ways to answer their needs. Returning to Canada after a two year mission in Brazil, she continued her work with immigrants with greater zeal. On retiring from teaching, she continued to volunteer in city schools, St. Ann and St. Boniface and tutoring adults in English. From 1989 to 1999, she was Assistant Archivist for the Sisters of Service. Throughout her life, she maintained her interest and study in art and horticulture. A vibrant woman with a passion for life, learning and concern for others, she will be missed by her SOS community, family and many friends. Friends may call at the LaSalle Manor, 61 Fairfax Cres., Scarborough, ON, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the LaSalle Manor. Interment in Sisters of Service Plot Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto, ON. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, Toronto, ON.
