Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEBRA ANNE KERELUK (nee STARR) September 16, 1955 - September 30, 2006 Peacefully, on September 30, 2006, at her home in Kelowna, BC. Debra passed away after a courageous 10 year battle with breast cancer. She was 51 when she left her family and loved ones to continue her journey. Debra was born on September 16, 1955 in Winnipeg, MB. Survived by her daughter Jasmine (Andy), granddaughter Maria, parents Anne and Frank Starr, her three brothers Bob (Wanda), David (Pete), Ken (Jacqui), her niece Karen and nephews Nikolas and Sam. She is also survived by her dearest friend Candace Sutherland, who was at her side throughout. She was predeceased by her husband Gary Dwayne Kereluk. While in Winnipeg, Debra worked in a doctor's office, was a real estate agent and a retail salesperson. She then worked with a group of consultants who did accounting in developing countries. She operated her own business, Added Touch Word Processing, and after successfully transferring ownership of this business, she worked with special needs foster children for the next three years. In 1992 Debra moved to Kelowna, BC and worked at the Kelowna Women's Resource Centre for 11 years. She was an active volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Central Okanagan Women's Emergency Shelter and The Elizabeth Fry Society. She also received an award from The Red Cross for her fundraising efforts for the Tsunami relief. She loved camping in the mountains and had a special place in her heart for the family cottage in Minaki, ON. Deb was a gentle soul who inspired so many with her caring, strength, compassion and free spirit. Her granddaughter, Maria, was the greatest joy in her life an they shared many happy times together. We are all proud of Deb's achievements, life and courage. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, as there will never be another like her. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life was held at her church, the Centre for Positive Living, on October 7, 2006, in Kelowna, BC. A private family memorial will be held in Winnipeg on October 21, 2006. Deb's family in Winnipeg wish to express their sincere thanks to her dear friend Candy, and the Centre for Positive Living for the tremendous support they provided throughout her life.
