I first heard of John when he worked at the Sturgeon & Ness store as I inquired who owned the Lincoln convertible that was parked on the lot. Years later when I was responsible for hiring the bakers I met John. John ran a mostly large bakeries, like Grant Park Store. He introduced the Spanish Fergasas bread to Safeway stores when he returned from a vacation there. John lived and enjoyed the finer things in life. Before the new Grant Park remodel opening, his boat sunk on Lake Winnipeg. It was reported that there was a fortune in booze on board. The morning of the opening for Grant Park, the bakery ceiling fell in due to construction workers not sealing the roof vent the evening before and have a heavy rainfall that evening. He did not like Harold's comments that morning, you sink your boat and now you are sinking my bakery. I had the pleasure of golfing with John, Harold, Keith and enjoyed their company. It is unfortunate that you passed away so young and did not get a chance to enjoy retirement. God Bless, Rest in Peace. - Posted by: colin dederick (collague) on: Aug 21, 2022
