PAUL LOUIS LEGER July 5, 1941 - October 16, 2006 It is with extreme sadness that Paul's family announces his peaceful death at the Grace Hospital on the morning of Monday, October 16, 2006. For the past four years, Paul's health has declined due to various illnesses. He was recently hospitalized for pancreatitis and died unexpectedly. Left to mourn his passing is wife Jane; daughters Andrea (Paul d'Eschambault) and Christine and son Quentin; sisters Marie and Simone and grandsons Joel and Nathan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his daughter Leah and son Mark; parents Louis and Helen; brother Peter and brothers-in-law Bill and Dick. Paul was a dedicated father and grandfather. He valued education above all, and instilled in his children a high esteem for academic excellence. He knew the meaning of unconditional love and his family could call on him at any time to move furniture, plant gardens, change tires, and run errands. Paul was devoted to supporting his son Mark who struggled with mental illness, and was devastated by Mark's death in 2000. Paul was proud of his career as a Junior High school teacher of 32 years in the St. Vital School Division. He was affectionately known as the Grammar Slammer . After retiring from teaching, Paul began a second career with St. James Industries as an employment specialist for the mentally challenged. A love for science and the English language made him an expert source of knowledge. He was especially delighted to win the first Free Press holiday crossword contest. All are invited to take part in the celebration of Paul's life on Friday, October 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the CanadInn, Windsor Park, 1034 Elizabeth Rd., Winnipeg. Our family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Rosewood and the Grace Hospital for their compassion, support and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or the Canadian Mental Health Association, 432 Ellice Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1Y4. Paul's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Paul - A very special teacher. He was kind and a good listener, if you had a problem he would help to solve the problem. Then I babysat for him and his wife. He helped me to find a job before he got sick. I am still saddened of his passing in 2006. I think of him at times. • If this is the correct person, I met Paul in 1961 or 1962 when I was with my parents on a train trip from Washington state to Minnesota. We had a day layover in Winnipeg. We were staying the day at a downtown hotel and there was a wedding reception going on. Paul was a guest at the wedding. We met and he volunteered to show me the town. We drove around in his car, then he brought me back and I continued on the train journey. Paul and I corresponded by mail for a long time. I did a search for him recently and found much to my sadness, his obituary. I am pretty sure from the picture, this is the correct person. My condolences to your family. Paul was a lovely person then and I'm sure he remained so. - Posted by: Janie Calvert (Possible friend) on: Dec 01, 2013
