WALTER BRIAN GULYAS (Wally) July 1, 1952 - October 14, 2006 Suddenly and regrettably on October 14th, 2006, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearest husband, father, brother and best niche. He was predeceased by his mother Doris Grace Gulyas in 1987; grandparents Micheal Gulyas 1962; Rosalia Gulyas; and by his first wife Donna Lee Gulyas in 1981. Wally will be sadly missed by his wife Yvonne; daughters Robyn (Hermann Visser), Christine (Rob Hawkins), Deneem Swampy; sons Zachary Gulyas and Vaughan Swampy (Tessa); his two special grandchildren Cole and Karlee whom he loved so dearly; and two dear little boys, Scottie and Joshua, who came into his life one and one half years ago; father John F. Gulyas; sisters Penny Wolosezky, Rosemary (Brian McCutcheon), Tracy McLachlan (James Craig); many aunts, uncles, nieces and numerous cousins; and many business associates and friends. Mother and father-in-law, Theresa and Edgar Swampy; Bev (Bernard McKenzie), Dennis (Sandra), Press (John Kawecki), Evelyn (Ross MacFarlane) Howard, Debra, Douglas, Dwayne and Peter Swampy (Cindy) and many nieces and nephews. Wally was born and raised in Winnipeg. He grew up in Charleswood on Liberty Street and graduated from Charleswood Collegiate in 1970. Following in his fathers footsteps, he began a highly successful career in the building material industry. In late 1971, he found his niche and opened Norseman Enterprises which he co-owned and operated with his partner Chief Ed Guy Wood of St. Theresa Point. For many years they served the Northern Native Community where Wally developed many long standing personal and business relationships. After enjoying many successful years in Winnipeg they expanded their horizons and opened a second branch which Wally headed up in conjunction with Al Campbell out of Edmonton. The family enjoyed many successful and happy years at their ranch in Hubbles Lake. Shortly after his first wife's passing he closed the Edmonton Branch and came back to Winnipeg to be with his family and friends. Upon his return, he continued in the same field, serving First Nation Communities with several large building companies. In 1993, a whole new chapter in his life began. He embraced his new wife Yvonne and also her large extended family. He adopted every member of Yvonne's family with open arms. Wally will be known best for his friendliness, generosity and his kindness He lived each day to the fullest as though it were his last - a lesson learned from his blessed mother. He was a giant man with a giant heart. His many acts of compassion and his sense of humor will comfort us all for many years to come. The family would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedics service, and the staff of Concordia Hospital as well as the Chaplain (Ericka) for their efforts and support in this trying time. Wake services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on October 16 to 19, 2006 at his residence at 27 Algonquin Avenue off Raleigh Ave. Viewing services will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on October 19, 2006 at Springs Church, 725 Lagimodiere.
