PATRICIA MARTHA BARNICKI On October 12, 2006, Patricia Martha Barnicki, a woman of compassion, conviction and courage left this world and went on to glory. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, aged 81 years, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family after a life very well lived. Patricia leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her beloved husband, John; daughter Janet (Jack); sons, Ken (Dawn) and Don (Adeline); sisters, Effie and MaryAnn; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Meagan, Thomas, Larissa and Shaun; great-grandchildren, Madison and Caiden; and many friends, neighbours and relatives. She was born on February 19, 1925 in the village of Staucenia, Bukovina, Romania and came to this country as a child of four years. Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Koroluk and by her brother Bill. Mom treasured the friendships that she made and nurtured over the years at Eaton's, where she worked and in the bowling league and church seniors' group that she enjoyed right up until the time of her illness. She had an enduring appreciation for the neighbours who lived around her in her childhood years on farms near Stonewall and Gunton as well as here in Winnipeg where she and Dad lived and raised our family. Mom had a great curiosity about the world and was able to indulge it by travelling often throughout North America and beyond, while acting as navigator to Dad's pilot. During her final months she was both an inspiration and comfort to us as we tried to come to terms with the seriousness of her illness. Mom faced death with the same dignity, courage and acceptance that she exhibited throughout her life. Her passing is difficult to endure but she laid a strong foundation of love for her family that will enable us to carry on and will be her legacy. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care for Mom and for the sensitive and encouraging way in which they interacted with our family. We also thank Dr. Mark Kristjanson for his care for Mom and for helping us through the process of getting the best care for her. In accordance with Mom's wishes, a funeral liturgy will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman at Arlington on Thursday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Isadore officiating. Cremation and a private family interment will take place at a later date. We thank those who sent cards, letters and flowers to Mom. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Forever loved, forever in our hearts. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
