THOMAS PETER EDWIN WETTON 1924 - 2006 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Thomas Peter Edwin on October 12, 2006, aged 82 years. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 55 years Mary, his children, Catherine, David, Allan (Jill) and Sylvia (Ron) Fedusiak, grandchildren, Michelle, Steven, Michael, Kari, Sean and Samantha. He was predeceased by his father Thomas Charles, mother Aini and sister Elizabeth. Tom was born in Winnipeg and grew up in a very loving home that revolved around a deep faith and love of God and country, which he always carried with him. He proudly followed in his father's footsteps, serving his country during the Second World War. His knowledge of Canadian military history was second to none. In 1951, childhood sweethearts Tommy and Mary were married in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba and made their home in Winnipeg. Tom worked as a clerk at the CNCP Telecommunications at Portage and Main, retiring in 1986 after 35 years of service. Tom was a charter member of the Canadian Legion Memorial Housing Foundation (Manitoba), founded in 1952. He was a champion for access to improved living conditions for veterans on limited incomes. Tom retired from his volunteer position of vice-president in 1997 after the completion of five projects that continue to provide decent, affordable housing to many of our veterans. After retirement, Tom and Mary discovered a new passion - travelling. They were able to enjoy several cruises with the Holland America Cruise Line and they also made several trips within Canada and to England to visit family. Tom will always be remembered as a gentle, loving man. No matter what his situation, his first thoughts were always of family. One of his greatest joys was reading and it pleased him to know that his children and grandchildren inherited that joy. The family is grateful to the staff on the 3rd floor of the Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care of Tom during his six week stay. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 20, 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with interment and reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
