Date of Passing: Oct 15, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORVAL (VAL) GRAY January 17, 1924 - October 15, 2006 Suddenly on Sunday, October 15, 2006 after a full life, Mom passed away at her home at the age of 81. Her best friend and loving husband Bert was right by her side as always. Besides her husband, Val leaves to cherish her memory five children, Glen (Janet), Jane (Fred), Randy (Kim), Margo, Gary (Heather). Also left to mourn are her 11 grandchildren Donald (Kristine), John, Gayle, Stephanie (Kelly), Lindsey, Lisa (Keith) Jennifer, Shannon, Brontee, Aldyn, Landen and seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Eric, Dylan, Hailey, Kennedy, Kyle and Trevor. Mom was born on January 17, 1925 in Campbellton, NB. She was one of 12 children born to Andrew and Josephine Smith. She often spoke of the many adventures she had with her brothers and sisters growing up on the family farm. She is survived by her brother Jack and her sister Lorraine as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Mom married her best friend and the love of her life, Bert Gray on February 16, 1945. Together they lived in various cities in Eastern Canada before moving to Winnipeg in 1949 to start their family. Mom devoted endless hours outside the home working for the Children's Aid Society but her main focus was always her family, her friends and anyone else who needed a helping hand. Mom was the centre of our universe. She always kept track of us, either from her rocking chair in the front window or on the phone. Growing up Mom and Dad's taxi was always on the go. Whether it was to pick someone up, to babysit or to cross miles to catch one of the kids games or school events. She was always just in the neighbourhood dropping something off or just to say hi. No matter what, Mom always took the time to make you feel special and we are all so grateful for the endless amount of time we all got to spend with her. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. with viewing prior to the service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba Inc., 1060 Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0C9.
