NETTIE WATSKO (nee YANCHUK) 1925 2006 It is with much sorrow that our family announce the untimely passing of a most gracious lady, our Mother, Nettie Watsko, on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Concordia Hospital. Mom was born in Hazelridge, Manitoba on March 15, 1925. Nettie married John on June 4, 1942 and after 60 years of marriage Dad passed away in December 2001. Mom and Dad were predeceased by their son Wayne in 1999. Survived by two daughters, Judy (Myron) and Wendy. Grandchildren David (Tobi), Jordan (Kelli), Quinn, Tyler, and Kyle. Great-granddaughter Avery. Nettie was predeceased by brothers Nick and John, sisters Mary, Jennie, Annie, Dora and Sophie. Mom worked for many years along side Dad in establishing Watsko Construction. This eventually enabled them to see Northern Manitoba, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Mom's personal enjoyments were visiting relatives and friends, playing cards, throwing toonies and lever pulling, baking, gardening and going for Sunday drives to the Half Moon for a hotdog and ice cream. Mom was the essence of quiet dignity and grace. She was a kind hearted selfless human. Those that knew her well, knew there were no boundaries, unconditional love was given freely, no questions asked. Mom was not a mystery, her best gift was probably that of listening, not just hearing what was said, but what wasn't said. Her advice to us was given when asked and then gently guiding us in the right direction. Though her trials and tribulations were many there was never a complaint. It will be better tomorrow. Well, her tomorrow has come and now she is free of her trials and tribulations. We know that she is flying on the wings of the angels. Mom touched the hearts of those she met throughout her journey. She became a mentor, role model, and confidant. It was not unusual for Mom to be entertaining our friends at the kitchen table without our presence. She had developed an extended family. One could not leave their home without sharing homemade soup and sandwiches or some sort of dainties with a cup of tea. Mom was the essence of an earth mother. Mom will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. Special thanks to the residents on the 5th floor at East Gate Lodge for befriending Mom and making her transition a very pleasant experience. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the personnel at Park Manor and to the attending Emergency Room staff at Concordia Hospital. Visitation and Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 19 between 7:30 8:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy #1 E. and Navin Rd. A Celebration of Nettie's Life will be held on Friday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. Interment at Transcona Cemetery following the service. Flowers respectfully declined. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB., R3L 0K6.
