HENRY KRAHN With sadness, the family of Henry Krahn announce the passing of their loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, after a five month struggle with cancer. He is survived by beloved wife Chris; children, Paul (Sue) Krahn, Lorraine (Joern) Muenster, Randy (Ruth) Krahn; stepchildren, Vi (Joe) Scherbak, Tom (Kim) Saskosky; grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Krahn and Jonathan and Michael Martens; and great-grandson Hunter Martens. He is also survived by siblings, Agatha Bueckert of Niverville, MB, Mary Wiebe of Winnipeg and Jake (Edna) Krahn of Vancouver, BC. He is predeceased by wife Erica in 1991, his second wife Nellie in 2002 and by his brother Herman in 2004 as well as three brothers in infancy. Henry was born in Arkadak, Russia and immigrated to Canada as an infant with parents, Heinrich and Suzanna Krahn. The family settled in Niverville, MB. The loving relationship he shared with his siblings and parents was tested by the sudden death of his father in the depth of the Depression. The family survived with the help of church and neighbours. Although he was only 11, this loss made him the man of the house , a responsibility he accepted with grace. He moved to Winnipeg and married Erica Peters in 1949. The couple enjoyed a very happy family life, and were blessed with three children. After the loss of Erica, he married the second love of his life , Nellie Martens, in 1996. Sadly, Nellie died of cancer in 2002. Once again, he accepted the loss with grace but was surprised and delighted to find the third love of his life , Chris Saskosky, who he married in 2003. Henry was proud to be a rail roader . He experienced a rewarding professional life at CNR where he started as a draftsman in 1956. He worked his way up through the ranks to Chief Circuit Designer and Signal Supervisor Technical at the time of his retirement in 1986. He had many interests, but perhaps the one that most defined him was his love of the game of golf. He was a member at Rossmere Country Club, and enjoyed many happy hours on the links with his golfing buddies. With faith in Christ, Henry was able to accept his illness, thanking God for 81 healthy years. The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital ward N1 South and N3 East. The funeral will take place at Eastview Community Church, 3500 DeVries Ave., October 21, 9:30 a.m. with viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
