GORDON HARLEY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon on October 13, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is Mary, his devoted wife and sweetheart of 63 years; his children Jim (Dianne), Pat Nord (Dennis), Beth Lewis (Howard); his grandchildren Blake and Brooke Harley; Christie Mork (John), Lana Nord (Adam Gilbert) and Dan Nord; Jordan and Benjamin Lewis; his great-grandchildren Madison and Eric Mork; his brother-in-law Jack Simpson (Elaine) and many dear friends. Gord was born in Winnipeg on September 12, 1918. He attended St. Paul's United Church and Daniel McIntyre School where he excelled in academics, soccer, track and hockey. During the Second World War, Gord served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1943 Gord married Mary Simpson, his lifelong love and companion. From their beautiful love story came an extended family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gord was dedicated to his family and they were first and foremost in his life. We will always remember his gentle manner, his constant love, support and encouragement. Gord joined Investors Group in 1953 as a Sales Representative. During the next few years his positive attitude, strong work ethic and remarkable people skills ensured his success as a sales leader. His leadership skills led him to a variety of successful management positions which culminated in his retirement in 1983 as Regional Vice President of Investors Group. Gord was admired and respected for his honesty, integrity and his ability to motivate and inspire others. His skilled mentorship launched many successful careers at Investors Group. Music and humour were an integral part of Gord's life. He was an accomplished pianist, had a keen wit and was a captivating story teller. He spent countless hours entertaining family, friends and colleagues with his sing songs, skits and hilarious stories. Following his retirement in 1983, family remained Gord's primary focus. He continued to play a positive role in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gord and Mary loved their holidays in Anna Maria Island and Naples Florida where they formed many strong and lasting friendships. Gord was a long serving member of the Fort Garry Kiwanis Club having served as President for three terms. He was also a Mason, a member of Khartum Temple and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Gord was a very special man who was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was humble, genuine and unpretentious. His kindness, generosity and contagious enthusiasm for life will be his legacy to his family and friends. Our family feels blessed to have had so many precious years together with so many happy memories.
