Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BRACE BAKER M.D. 1915 - 2006 Brace Baker, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home on October 17, 2006. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Clarke and William. Born in Gilbert Plains, MB on January 29, 1915 to Charles and Margaret Baker, he was the youngest of three sons. He attended Normal School in Dauphin, MB and taught school at Valley River for three years, after which he entered the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1943. He married Peggy Kennedy in September 1943 and they moved to Brandon where Brace practiced for 13 years. In 1959 Brace undertook the study of radiology in Vancouver, graduating in 1963. Three years were spent in Calgary and then a move to Victoria where Brace continued his work. He spent many happy hours on the rolling greens of the Oak Bay Golf Club and loved a good game of snooker. He retired in 1975. Brace is survived by Peggy, his wife of 63 years; a son Ken (Irene) of Ladysmith and daughters, Carol Baker and Ruth Currey of Victoria; grandsons, Christopher (Jodi) Lawrence, Clive (Jen) Lawrence, Tony Baker and Matthew Currey; granddaughters, Tia Baker and Caitlin Currey; great-grandchildren, Tye and Jordis Lawrence and Mayah and Evan Lawrence; nieces and nephews. Brace loved being a doctor, had a wonderful sense of humour and was an honest man. God bless him. Our deep thanks and appreciation to all the staff of Oak Bay Lodge, especially those of 3 Maple S.C. for their loving care. A celebration of Brace's life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort St., on Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Holly Room. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Salvation Army, the Oak Bay Lodge Foundation or the Ken Currey Leadership Fund, in care of YMYWCA, Victoria, BC.
