SAMUEL KYBA Sam passed away peacefully at the Holy Family Nursing Home on October 18, 2006 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Matilda; daughter Mary and sons, Tom and Greg. He was predeceased by his son Andrew and daughter Cynthia, his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Sam was born and raised on a farm in Dneiper, SK. After completing high school, Sam was called to serve in the Canadian Army in the Second World War. He spent time in England, France and Belgium. While overseas Dad developed his artistic skills painting for the army. After the war Dad, with help from the DVA, graduated as a commercial artist from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. In 1949, Sam and his wife Matilda moved to Winnipeg to start up a family and his art career. Dad worked for various advertising firms as a photo-retouching artist for the department store catalogues. He worked for 38 years in his job, which was challenging due to his physical disability. Other loves that Sam had were painting, wood carving, listening to classical music and operas. Other pastimes were reading, studying history and geography. Dad was very knowledgeable about world events and had a gift remembering dates. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave. on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
